If you are not yet saved or not sure about your salvation and haven’t received Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation, I strongly suggest that you read this post first – What is Salvation?
One of the greatest gifts we have as Christians is the assurance of salvation. This faith is grounded in God’s unwavering promises, who through Jesus Christ assures our eternal life, rather than in our efforts or merits. Let’s examine this assurance’s biblical basis and the reasons we can rely on God to keep us firmly in His grace.
God’s Eternal Promise: “Neither Shall Any Man Pluck Them Out of My Hand”
In John 10:27-29, Jesus makes a powerful declaration about the security of those who belong to Him:
John 10:27-29 – 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
Here, Jesus refers to those who hear His voice and follow Him as believers, or His sheep. The assurance is unequivocal: once we are in Christ, we are under His care no matter what. In addition to giving us eternal life, He guarantees that we shall never die. This assertion of divine security is based on the underlying character of God’s omnipotence and fidelity.
No Force On Heaven or Earth Can Separate Us from God’s Love
The Apostle Paul reinforces this message of assurance in Romans 8:38-39, where he writes:
Romans 8:38-39 – 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Paul states clearly that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love, not even the mightiest powers in the universe. We are secured in Christ, no matter what obstacles we encounter in life or the spiritual wars we wage against evil forces. This provides a reassuring reminder that God’s unwavering, all-encompassing love is the foundation of our redemption.
Life After Death is a Gift, Not a Speculation
In 1 John 5:11-13, we see another vital truth:
1 John 5:11-13 – 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
This passage makes it clear that there is no reason to doubt the reality of eternal life. We can be sure that God has given us the gift of eternal life via His Son. This certainty is founded on the testimony of God’s Word, not on our feelings or temporary emotions. We may be certain that we have eternal life if we have placed our faith in Christ.
We are Sealed with the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 1:13-14 reveals another important aspect of our assurance:
Ephesians 1:13-14 – 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
We receive the Holy Spirit’s seal of approval when we trust in Christ. This sealing acts as a guarantee of our inheritance and shows that we are a part of God. This serves as a reminder that God is working within us and that He will finish what He has begun.
God Will Complete the Work He Began
Philippians 1:6 – Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
God never abandons a task uncompleted. Christ started a process of change in our hearts the instant we put trust in Him, and He will see it through to the end. This reassures us that God has the ability to keep us alive until the return of Christ, not because of our own efforts but rather through our faith in Christ.
Rest in God’s Promise
I can’t express enough how comforting the assurance of salvation has been to me. It’s one of the most precious truths I’ve come to embrace in my walk with Christ. Knowing that my eternal destiny is secure in the hands of a loving and all-powerful God has given me so much peace. It allows me to live with confidence, not because of anything I’ve done, but because of what Jesus has already accomplished.
The Bible is filled with promises that speak directly to this assurance. No matter what happens in life, nothing can snatch us from God’s hand, and nothing can separate us from His love. That truth has been my anchor, especially when I feel uncertain or overwhelmed. I’m learning to trust that God will complete the good work He began in me, even when I don’t feel strong or faithful.
If you’re like me, maybe just beginning to understand these beautiful promises, I encourage you to rest in them. Trust fully in the saving work of Jesus Christ, and know that you are His forever.
