Heaven or Hell?

In the book of Genesis, we read that when God created Adam and Eve, the world was free from sin. However, when they were tempted by the devil and chose to disobey God, they sinned against Him—the source of all that is good.

Due to Adam and Eve’s disobedience, sin became an inherited condition passed down to all their descendants.

Romans 5:12-14 tells us that through Adam, sin entered the world, and death came to all because all have sinned. This inherited sin, much like physical traits passed down from our parents, is a sinful nature we receive from Adam. Romans 5:12-1412 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Have you ever told a lie, even just once? Have you ever taken something that wasn’t yours, no matter how small? Have you ever felt anger toward someone? Have you ever looked at someone with lustful thoughts?

According to the Bible, if you’re guilty of any of these, you’ve committed sin against God. In essence, this makes you a liar, a thief, a murderer, and an adulterer—falling short of deserving Heaven.

1 Corinthians 6:9-109 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

God desires nothing that is unrighteous.

Romans 3:23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Some sins appear more significant than others because their consequences are more severe. For instance, we often view murder as worse than hatred, and adultery as more serious than lust. However, committing lesser sins doesn’t make us deserving of eternal life. Any sin, no matter how minor it seems, makes us sinners and separates us from our holy God. All sin leads to death because it disqualifies us from being with God. So, don’t downplay “small” sins or exaggerate the seriousness of “big” sins—they all distance us from God.

Aside from mortal death, what you should be worried about is spiritual death. We read in the following verses that the price for our sin is death – eternal damnation in Hell.

Romans 3:23 – For the wages of sin is death..

Despite our unworthiness, God’s love for us is so profound that He still desires to save us. His mercy and care for our souls are limitless. That’s why He provided a way for us to be with Him in heaven and escape the eternal torment of Hell.
